How Can severe Blood Clots In The Legs be Treated?

The doctor believes I have blood clots in my leg. He sent me in for testing this week and I will see him again on Monday. In the meantime I am having a lot of pain in the leg mostly when standing or walking. A friend recommended aspirin or Aleve but when I added those along with the meds I am currently on it brought up a red flag. I thought maybe I could either ice it or use a heating pad. Would either of those be helpful or, more importantly, harmful? Is walking or standing going to do more damage? Or will sitting do more damage?
